Royal bed and breakfast
In spite of all war and rationing, a lot of other distinguished persons have visited the hotel up through the years. Both Kong Haakon and later his son Kong Olav, and then crown heir Harald og crown heiress Sonja, have been our guests on a number of occations.
The entire world-press' attention was turned to the hotel when Anne Marie Rasmussen from Søgne married Nelson G. Rockefeller's son Stephen. In one of several thank you-notes after the wedding, Nelson G. Rockefeller writes in October 1959: -Never, anywhere, in any hotel, have I received such tactful and courteous attention!
In 1969, one of the largest arrangements in the history of the hotel was carried out when the American Vice-president Hubert H. Humphrey visited Kristiansand with a huge number of security-guards. He had a direct line to the White House from his corner-room on the first floor.
-Mrs. Humphery and I have seldom enjoyed a more congenial evening than the one we spent at the hotel Ernst with our friends and relatives,- he wrote on the 29th of January 1969.
